Anxiety is a feeling that we all experience at some point in our lives. It’s a natural response to stress, danger, or uncertainty, but when it starts to take over our lives, it can become a real problem.
Anxiety can be overwhelming, causing us to feel trapped, out of control, and unable to move forward.
Anxiety is actually a body-based issue that is reflected by the mind.
The source of anxiety can be traced back to unresolved trauma. These unresolved feelings stored in our bodies create the thoughts in our minds, as our minds try to make sense of these feelings.
Trauma is anything that changes our nervous system and prevents it from recovering from that event. It keeps us in a pattern of negative self-talk, where we believe we are unworthy of love and acceptance, amongst other limiting beliefs.
If a child experiences abuse, neglect, or abandonment, they do not stop loving their parents. Instead, they stop loving themselves. These events may not have been intentionally done to the child, but this is how the child interprets the events.
We train ourselves as children to overthink as it feels like a safe place, but we don't know how to regulate our thoughts and feelings.
As a result, we grow into adults who start the cycle of blaming, judging, and abandoning ourselves.
The first step in healing anxiety is to connect with your inner child.
Talk therapy alone may not always be sufficient to heal anxiety as it only addresses the mind while the root cause is stored in the body. Guided meditation, breath work, and other forms of healing can be helpful, but the key is to show your inner child that they are seen, heard, protected, and loved.
You need to give that child all of the things they feel they never had.
Going back to the event in childhood and finding the root cause is essential. By recalling the event and connecting with the child within you that is still struggling, you can work through the root cause event of anxiety together.
The goal is not just to cope with anxiety but to heal from it. To do that, you need to solve the root cause of the problem. Going back to what is still activated can be hard, confronting, nerve-wracking, and downright scary and exhausting. However, it's worth it.
You can continue to live a life of anxiety, feeling like you're running on autopilot or take the necessary steps to heal and move forward.
By doing the work to heal from anxiety, you can start living a life of purpose, forgiveness, and love, creating the best relationship in the world - the one with yourself. When you have a healthy relationship with yourself, you can create better more loving, and harmonious relationships externally.
